Guatemala Migration Office Fights Corruption
Guatemala - The fight against corruption is
today a priority to the new board of
directors of the Guatemalan General
Migration Department (GDM).
For this reason, strict control of
accountability is applied to monitor the use
of the institution's financial resources,
that entity's official Raul Arandi announced
to the media.
Visa forgery has been one of the problems
faced by that institution in the past and is
the reason to adopt proper measures to put
an end to that criminal activity.
According to GDM director, they started to
analyze and assess administrative policies
to process the results and make the
necessary changes, as general aspects.
Arandi also reported about the intention to
extend, for a year, the contract with the
company in charge of handling passports of
Guatemalan citizens, which expires next
month and and will be renegotiated the
upcoming week.
The GDM will use this extension to acquire
new technology and set up an infrastructure
that allows it being the only institution in
charge of issuing those documents.
The immigration official asserted that while
these arrangements are being made, the
entity will continue to issue passports
through certain measures.
However, until formalization and
legalization of the new contract, movable
passports will be suspended as of September.
This project is aimed to boost and help
Guatemalans acquire their international
identification document.
To comply with this task, GDM personnel are
working in each locality to approach each
citizen to the passport emission service. |
