CAN Foreign Ministers Meet in Peru
Lima - The Andean Community of Nations (CAN)
foreign ministers are holding a meeting on
Wednesday in this capital, with attendance
of the four member nations of the bloc.
CAN General Secretary Freddy Ehlers stated
that Bolivia's Foreign Minister David
Choquehuanca, Colombia's Jaime Bermudez,
Ecuador's Fander Falconi, and Peru's Jose
Garcia Belaunde are participating in the
forum.
The issues included in the working agenda
are to be presented by the host foreign
minister, as the integrationist bloc's pro
tempore president, Ehlers said.
CAN sources stressed that the meeting would
tackle the critical situation of
integration, started 40 years ago and
affected by political and economic
contradictions among its members, with the
free trade agreements as the core of the
conflict.
Ecuador's Foreign Minister Fander Falconi
will analyze in this event the process of
this bloc's integration.
The heds of diplomacy from Ecuador, Peru,
Bolivia and Colombia will evaluate progress
regarding the shaping of the new strategic
vision and the Andean strategic agenda, two
processes stipulated by the Guayaquil
Presidential Council, the Ecuadorian Foreign
Affairs Ministry stated. A proposal of the
CAN new vision was presented by Ecuador to
foster integration of Andean nations, serve
as a guide for actions by governments,
bodies and institutions of the Andean System
of Integration and organizations of the
civil society, the note said. |
