StarTek Plans Costa Rica Call Centre
StarTek Inc. plans to open its second
overseas call centre a year after launching
its first location outside North America.
The Denver-based company will open a call
centre in the America Free Trade Zone Centre
in Heredia, with as many as 400
employees in early 2010.
Once the new centre opens, StarTek will have
20 centers where it manages other companies’
customer relations and technical help calls.
Its customers are primarily U.S. telecom
companies.
StarTek opened a centre for as many as 1,100
operators in Manila, Philippines last
January. It was StarTek’s first center not
located in the United States or Canada.
The 8,000-employee company chose Costa Rica
for its educated, bilingual population and
friendly business climate, according to CEO
Larry Jones.
“There is a high market demand for a
near-shore option among both our new and
existing client base,” Jones said. “We are
in discussions with several existing clients
interested in expanding their programs into
the new space.”
