President
Arias Expected Back At Zapote Today After
Recovering From An AH1N1 Infection
Costa Rican president Oscar Arias is due
back at Casa Presidencial in Zapote today
after working from home all week and
shutting out all visitors due to his
contracting the AH1N1 virus infection.
The viceministra de Salud, Ana Cecilia
Morica, said on Sunday that the president
has complete is treatment and is out self
imposed quarantine.
Last Tuesday Arias was confirmed to have
been infected with the AH1N1 after test
results ordered by the ministra de Salud,
Maira Luisa Avila, who examined the
president the previous Sunday. Avila is also
the president's personal doctor.
Costa Rican health officials confirm that
since the outbreak in April, there have been
938 confirmed cases of infection, while
another 1.032 are awaiting the Instituto
Costarricense de Investigación y Enseñanza
en Nutrición y Salud laboratory test results
and 29 deaths. A total of 5.18 cases have
been ruled out for the AH1N1 virus.
Morice said that the virus is now in the
"sustained movement" in the community phase,
with health officials giving the San José
metropolitan area priority as the area with
the greatest number of confirmed cases and
the deaths save one which occurred in the
province of Limón.
Doctor Morice is asking everyone to pay
particular attention to symptoms that
include a temperature over 38 Celsius,
headache, sore throat, muscular pain, cough,
cold and pain in the joints. |
