Argentina: Work, Best Way to Fight
Poverty

Argentine President Cristina Fernandez
announced Friday her government is investing
1.5-billion pesos in a plan to generate
100,000 new jobs, arguing "work is the best
medicine to fight poverty", the leader of
the South American nation said.
The initiative was presented by her during a
televised conference at Casa Rosada,
presidential offices, to the members of her
cabinet and dozens of guests, in which she
said the government would focus in the
creation of jobs to combat poverty in the
country.
She stressed the funds, consisting in nearly
395 million dollars, are targeted at
enterprises with at least a 60 or 70 percent
of jobless people. "They will repairs
schools, build homes, and sewages. The idea
is to organize people who have no jobs,
around a certain goal", she said
The project is targeted at
high-vulnerability sectors, slums and
neighbourhoods in Buenos Aires province. The
implementation plan would later be extended
to other provinces showing high
vulnerability, the President said.
Poverty is not individual, is something
social, and it needs the organization of the
community," she added.That's the reason why
the government offers them the chance to
show their values and abilities. Argetine
leader assured in her statement the state
plans to aid those low-income sectors will
continue developing with the assistance of
the Ministry of Social Development. She
stressed the government annually destines
10, 200 million pesos in social plans. |
