Venezuela Legislators Debate Education

Caracas - Venezuela''s Parliament is debating on Thursday, in a second discussion, the education bill to implement in this country the liberating education, while the opposition private media are trying to freeze the changes.

In statements to Prensa Latina, Education Minister Hector Navarro emphasized the need to prepare students at early ages to analyze critically the media messages.

This will be one of the new subjects to add to the program, yet to be approved, but we have consulted several experiences in Europe and Latin America in that reference, he said.

Navarro urged the Venezuelan opposition to focus the discussion on the real bill and "not on lies, as the issue of legal guardianship, something that is not dealt with in this Law."

He accused, without mentioning any name, proprietors of media stations, top Catholic Church figures and some governors of lying about the proposal.
