FARC for Political Solution to Colombia

Bogota - The
Colombian guerilla (FARC) insisto n a
political solution to the domestic conflict,
according to statements published today by
its leader Alfonso Cano.
In an interview given to weekly magazine
Cambio, Cano sustained that a civilized
solution to the conflict cannot depend on
the will of one person, as powerful as he
may be, so independently of whom is
president of the country, the FARC insists
on a political solution.
Regarding an eventual formula replacing a
clearing for possible talks, the guerilla
leader considered as decisive the official
guarantees for a meeting between government
and guerilla, which divests any danger and
tension from participants and allow for
better conditions for talks.
Every time it has been possible -he saiud-
we have talked with representatives of the
State trying to build accords that convey to
coexistence. It has not been possible, but
this does not take us to desist from our
pretensión, he added.
"We have to talk, dialogue, and that means
space, guarantees, environment, greatness,
tolerance, will and decisión," he said.
Cano also expressed the FARC face the
largest counterinsurgency offensive ever
unleashed in Latin America and only in Money
the so-called Colombia Plan has received 10
billion dollars from Washington.
Also he dismissed the guerilla is militarily
defeated and pointed that the Executive
tries to create a triumphal psychological
state of mind that from so many lies it will
turn into a boomerang against them.
Cano also warned the new attitude of the
United States toward Latin America,
reflected in Honduras and in the military
agreements announced with Alvaro Uribe are
going to generate very radical reactions in
the continent.
Regarding the recognition of the belligerant
status sought after by the guerilla, the
head of the FARC affirmed that for no reason
they will desist of their objective, much
less now -he said- that Washington qualifies
and disqualifies as it sees fit and fixes
rules to the other axis of world power.
"The struggle for recognition as a political
and military organization, with a proposal
of State sustained in a revolutionary visión
of society continues to be vital for the
development of our Project," he said. |
