Honduran Coup Troops Charge at Students
Tegucigalpa - Hondura's pro-coup forces beat
students of the Cuban Latin American School
of Medicine (ELAM), who are visiting their
country and paid medical assistance to
several wounded demonstrators.
In a telephone interview from Mexico,
Democratic Unification party (UD) Deputy
Silvia Ayala asserted that the young
students were beaten and transferred to a
station, when they were assisting victims of
police repression in San Pedro Sula.
Some doctors had several injuries and
bruises, said the official that is leading
the peaceful resistance in the second
important city in the Central American
nation.
The events that happened after the situation
worsened there, where the de facto regime
declared emergency, due to the strong
protests, which have been on for 41 days, in
favor of the return of democracy.
The pro-coup troops also performed an
unprecedented period of repression,
launching tear gas against demonstrators,
resulting in several wounded and missing
people.
UD Deputy Tomas Andino and indigenous leader
Berta Caceres denounced the de facto forces'
brutality, and highlighted that the people's
resistance would not weaken.
UD congressional group leader Marvin Ponce
is still unconscious after a beating and it
is possible that he undergoes surgery on
Thursday, due to serious injuries.
Today is the 41st day of peaceful
demonstrations by the people and violent
repression by the illegal government, which
is silencing the media to hide the
innumerable outrages against the civil
