Brazil Welcomes Zelaya With Head of State Honours

Brasilia - The Brazilian government on Tuesday welcomed ousted Honduran President Manuel Zelaya with honours for a head of state.

The Honduran leader, deposed in a June 28 military coup, arrived in Brasilia Tuesday evening.

Zelaya was invited by the Brazilian government in early August. He will meet President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in Brasilia Wednesday afternoon, according to a statement issued by Brazil's Foreign Ministry.

During their meeting, the two leaders will discuss the present political situation in Honduras.

In the statement, the ministry said the Brazilian government still disapproves of the coup

which ousted Zelaya and expects him to be reinstated unconditionally as soon as possible.

Following the coup, Brazil recalled its ambassador from Honduras and suspended cooperation agreements with the Central American nation.
