Accuses Colombia Of Acting
Against Regional Unity

President Hugo Chavez accused the Colombian
government of acting against the Union of
South American Nations (Unasur) by intending
to sign a military agreement with the U.S.
Chavez told Colombian President Alvaro Uribe
"to get off the train if you want" while
objecting to the U.S. government's planned
use of Colombian military bases.
"Some people do not want to walk. The
Colombian government, for example, does not
want unity. It is acting against the unity,"
said Chavez at the third Unasur summit held
in Quito, capital of Ecuador.
"The Colombian government does not want
South American unity because it is tied to
the empire (U.S.) orders, it is
subordinated," Chavez added.
Uribe did not attend the Summit, sending
Colombian vice foreign minister as his
representative.
Unasur was formed under the Unasur
Constitutive Treaty on May 23 2008 in
Brasilia, Brazil. It is a regional
integration group, modeled on the European
Union.
