Raul Castro Visit to Ecuador Extolled
Quito - Ecuadorean deputy Foreign Minister
Lautaro Posso extolled today the importance
for his country of the visit of Cuban
president Raul Castro to the ceremony of
inauguration of Rafael Correa, reelected
president last April.
After receiving the Cuban leader at the
capital Air Base terminal, Posso declared to
Cuban media accredited to this event that
"it is very important the presence here of
all heads of state and in particular, that
of president Raul Castro, representative of
a country so well loved by Ecuador as is
Cuba."
"With the Cuban people, he added, we have
historic links of long standing. The
presence of President Raul Castro honours
Ecuador and the President of the Republic."
"We believe, he emphasized, that this
inauguration with 14 attending heads of
state and, above all, the Cuban president,
will be very valuable and means a lot to the
people of Ecuador."
Referring to bilateral relations, he said
"with Cuba we have many fields of
cooperation. There are Cuban cooperants in
Ecuador in Education, Health, we have
hundreds of Ecuadorean students in Cuba and
trade not big in volumen but important."
"In all fields we have an extraordinarily
good relation," he stressed.
Answering a question from Prensa Latina on
the international context in which this
meeting is being held, he termed it
particularly difficult, especially "after in
Ecuador President Correa decided the exit of
a US military base in our country, which now
seems to be installed in Colombia."
"The presence of these presidents in Ecuador
implies we are against the Colombian
decisión and we do not want foreign troops
in South American territory," affirmed Posso.
"So many heads of state accompanying
president Correa is a clear message, a
rejecti9on of policies we thought already
left behind, reiterated the diplomat. |
