Cellular Service To Improve In The Coming
Weeks, But Don't Bet On It!
The manager of mobile services for ICE,
Adolfo Arias, promises that cellular service
will get better in the coming weeks.
Arias said that the Instituto Costarricense
de Electricidad (ICE) will complete the move
of all services and personnel assigned to
the Alcatel network to the Ericsson network,
which is expected to provide better service
and added coverage.
What this means is that all those customers
on the Alcatel must visit an ICE office to
replace the SIM chip to the new network.
Acatel subscribers are those numbers
beginning with 8801 to 8850 and typically
have a "green" chip. However, some customers
were given the "morado" (purple) chips as a
replacement when ICE ran out of the green
chips some time ago.
The move had been expected in May.
In Costa Rica all things take more time than
expected, especially when it comes to state
institutions.
A formula we have devised to allow for this
is: take the time announced, multiply it by
three times, divided it by two and add 1.
With this formula three months or years
becomes six, six months or years becomes
10.5.
