Four More
Pregnant Women With The AH1N1 Virus
Infection
Following the death earlier this week of a
woman who gave birth to twins before
becoming a victim of the AH1N1 flu virus,
the ministerio de Salud informs that there
are currently four more pregnant women in
hospital Max Peralta in Cartago, all
infected with the AH1N1.
Karl Fabian, head of the medical centre,
says the women are stable and have been
moved out of the intensive care units and
are responding to treatment.
According to Fabian, the women are expected
to make a full recovery.
Due to their pregnancy the women were given
special attention and supervision.
Pregnant women are in the high risk group
along with the obese, diabetics and those
suffering from chronic respiratory and heart
conditions.
Ana Morice, viceministra de Salud, explained
that pregnant women have lower defences
against the AH1N1.
Thursday a 25 year old woman gave birth to
her twin babies before dying from the virus
infection at the Max Peralta. The babies
were delivered by cesarean section and
although are below optimum weight they are
doing fine and are expected to be home soon.
The woman had been admitted to hospital with
a severe case of respiratory problems caused
by the AH1N1 virus.
Viceministra Morice is asking pregnant women
to refrain from visiting areas with lots of
people to avoid possible infection and to
maintain a rigorous prenatal control.
