Police Seize 500 kg Of
Marijuana
Rio de Janeiro - Brazilian
police seized 500 kg of marijuana during an
operation in Rio de Janeiro's Rocinha slum
on Friday.
At least four people were arrested in the
operation, which started early in the
morning in the largest slum of the country.
A total of 250 policemen took part in the
operation, and a helicopter and two armored
personnel carriers provided support to the
officers.
A heavy shootout between drug dealers and
the police forced local shops to close and a
government social project to suspend
construction temporarily.
In addition to the marijuana, which was
found wrapped in 400 tablets, several kinds
of ammunition, police and army uniforms, and
scales used for weighing drugs were seized.
So far, there have been no reports of
casualties during the operation. |
