Government Expects OAS
Mission To Be "Impartial"
Tegucigalpa - The interim
Honduran government said on Thursday it
expected an upcoming mission from the
Organization of American States (OAS) to be
"impartial" in their efforts to help resolve
the political crisis in the country.
Honduran interim presidency minister Rafael
Pineda Ponce said his government was open to
dialogue, but the mission must report true
information for the OAS to reconsider its
decision to suspend Honduras' participation.
The OAS will send a mission of several
foreign ministers to Honduras for
negotiations on the Agreement of San Jose,
proposed by Costa Rican President Oscar
Arias.
The Agreement of San Jose sets forth the
creation of a reconciliation government to
advance general elections to Oct. 30 and the
establishment of a tracking commission with
members from all sides.
"We expect the delegation to come with an
impartial, tolerant, open-to-dialogue and
understanding attitude," Pineda Ponce told
reporters at the government house.
Pineda Ponce said he trusts the delegation
will not compromise with either side, but
remain nonpartisan.
Pineda Ponce added that post-coup leader
Roberto Micheletti has sent the Agreement of
San Jose to the judicial, executive and
legislative powers to discuss whether his
government can accept the agreement. |
