Paraguay Lugo for Trying Violators of
Human Rights

Paraguayan president, Fernando Lugo,
reiterated the will of his government to try
those responsible for the disappeared during
the military dictatorship of Alfredo Stroessner (1984-1989).
Lugo spoke of rescuing historical truth
during a speech in homage of the victims of
this period.
All guarantees will be given to those who
accuse the crimes committed promised the
president in a police station in this
capital where last July 23 a clandestine
cemetery was found with remains of those
opposed to the dictatorship.
We not only want to remember but bring
justice and also recover the goods that were
stolen of the Paraguayan people, insisted
the president.
The head of state also expressed the
importance of delving deeply in this part of
history to prevent it from happening again
in the future.
The Archives of Death, found by Paraguayan
Martin Almada in this city in 1992 confirm
the existence of a conspiracy between the
military regimes of the 70s in the countries
of the Latin American southern cone to
eliminate political opponents.
With the advisory services of the United
States Central Intelligence Agency the
infamous Operation Condor resulted in 50,000
assassinations, 30,000 disappeared and
400,000 jailed. |
