CARTAGO - A new trip from Costa Rica’s
Tropical Adventures offers a blend of living
on an indigenous reservation and the chance
to volunteer in the community, all at a
super price.
The company is known for their innovative
trips that allow families to become truly
involved with this unique country and its
people by working with them as volunteers
and living with host families.
The trip begins with a dinner and overnight
in San Jose before transferring to the
Talamanca Indigenous Reservation on the
Caribbean side of the country. Danilo Gabb
is the host at the Bambu Cultural Center.
This spectacular house was built using
Bribri methods and guests stay here while
getting to know the local people and the
surrounding area. There is also the chance
to visit the sites where guests may choose
to volunteer on the fourth day. These
include the Bratsi Elementary School, the
Bambu Retirement Home or the Cultural Center
itself.
The third day is spent on a frog tour,
visiting an indigenous farm to see six types
of frogs, parrots, picotes, butterflies and
medicinal plants. After the day of optional
volunteering, there’s a tour on a dugout
canoe to Panama, to swim and relax by a
beautiful waterfall.
There’s time to say goodbye to new friends
before the trip back to San Jose for the
night. This seven-day sojourn is only $799
for adults and $699 for children 12 and
under. During the free periods, hiking,
rafting, horseback riding or ziplining can
be arranged.
