Taxi Customers
To Pay Road Tolls
Taking a taxi to Escazú, for instance, just
got more expensive. ¢320 colones more to be
exact, now that the Autoridad Reguladora de
los Servicios Públicos (Aresep) has ruled
that customers are responsible to pay for
the tolls.
Taxi drivers had complained of the high cost
of tolls they faced, especially on the San
José - Caldera highway, where the toll
charges ate away the profits of providing
the service.
When the Escazú tolls began three months
ago, taxi drivers and their unions
complained to the regualdor their discontent
of not add the cost of the tolls to the
fares.
Taxi drivers complained that a fare from
Trejos Montealegre to Multiplaza, by way of
the highway which costs about ¢2.000
colones, the taxi operator would have to
incur the cost of ¢620 colones (¢310 each
way).
The Aresep decision is expected to be
published and take effect tomorrow, Friday,
August 7.
