National Resistance March in Honduras

Honduras is to start Wednesday a National
March of Popular Resistance, rejecting the
military coup, and demanding the restitution
of the constitutional order and President
Manuel Zelaya.

The rally was agreed Sunday by the National
Front organizations against the coup d'Etat
to recover the state of law, broken after
the June 28 military coup.
Students from the National Pedagogical
University supported the protest Tuesday,
during an assembly held in that education
center. They took some neighboring avenues
for over one hour until getting dark.
They also called for a parade of torches
Thursday afternoon, from that university to
Tegucigalpa's historical quarter.
The aim of the march is to prove the de
facto government the strength of the popular
movement, catholic priest Andres Tamayo
stated.
The capital's oppositions to the de facto
government will meet in front of the
National Pedagogical University, to announce
the peaceful resistance activities for
today, the Front's general coordinator Juan
Barahona said.
Demonstrations against the military coup
began shortly after that action was known on
June 28. Israel Salinas, general secretary
of the Federation of Workers, stressed the
protest will continue until the final
victory. |
