Hopes For Peaceful Solution to Honduras Crisis
Managua - The U.S.
ambassador to Nicaragua on Wednesday
expressed hope for a constitutional and
peaceful solution to the current political
crisis in Honduras.
"Our position, regarding Honduras, is that
the Agreement of San Jose is the most
efficient and fairest way to solve the
problem," Robert Callahan told a press
conference after a meeting with Nicaraguan
businessmen.
Callahan urged the ousted Honduran
president, Manuel Zelaya, to resume the
political dialogue proposed by Costa Rican
President Oscar Arias, who serves as a
mediator in Honduras' crisis, in a bid to
restore the constitutional order in the
country.
Callahan said political dialogue is the most
efficient mechanism to solve the political
crisis in Honduras that broke out since
Zelaya was sent into exile in a military
coup on June 28.
Zelaya on Wednesday wrapped up his visit to
Mexico. Next week, he will meet with
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula Da
Silva in Brazil, the second stop of his tour
in Latin America to seek support.
