ACNUR Visits Honduran Refugees in Nicaragua
Ocotal, Nicaragua - A delegation of
the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (ACNUR)
assessed the situation of over 1,200
followers of Honduran President Manuel
Zelaya who sought shelter in Nicaragua.
They managed to avoid the border patrol and
reach Las Manos Camp, Ocotal Sports Center
and Dipilito Municipality. ACNUR delegation
member Josef Merkx said the refugees deal
with water and food shortage and poor
sanitary services.
Honduran Health Minister Guillermo Gonzalez
admitted that they are suffering hardships
and his government lacks the power to
improve their living standard. |
