Rodríguez to Goes to Jail!
A little after 5:30 this afternoon, former president Miguel Ángel Rodríguez arrived at the largest prison in Costa Rica, La Reforma, joining another former president, Rafael Ángel Calderón Fournier who has been in La Reforma for the past week.

Superior Court judge, Gabriela Jara, made ther decision known near to transfer Rodríguez from house arrest to preventive detention (jail) for the next six months. Rodríguez had been under house arrest for the past two weeks.

The judge's decision came after yesterday's hearing, where the Fiscalía appealed a lower court decision to give Rodríguez house arrest. The reasons given for the detention is to prevent Rodríguez from fleeing the country and/or impeding the prosecutor's investigation.

Rodríguez and Calderón will be housed in the same block for the time being. Their "outside" time will be altered so as the two former presidents cannot come into contact.

Rodríguez left the court building for his apartment in Vargas Araya, in Montes de Oca, San Pedro, yesterday under heavy police guard to wait the judge's decision.

Late this afternoon, agaisn under heavy police guard, Rodríguez boarded a police wagon known as a "perrera" and was transferred to San Rafael de Alajuela.

Rodríguez returned to Costa Rica following stepping down as Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) on Friday, October 15.

The former president was arrested in the airplane that he came in from Washington, and brought immediately before the Fiscalía which then detained the former president and a judge ordered six months of house arrest in lieu of jail.
