Financier Takes Own Life

Roy Taylor, principal of the Vault,
shoots himself during raid
The
much expected raid on "The
Vault" took place yesterday morning
a little after 10am at the firm's main
offices in San Jose and other points
that included Jaco Beach and Naranjo.
Roy
Taylor, 59, the major principal in
the business, committed suicide in
the early afternoon, some 5 hours
after the commencement of the
raid, when he asked for permission
to use the bathroom.
Initial reports indicate that he
used a small caliber weapon take
his own life - a double
barrel derringer, one of two he is
to have been accustomed to have on
his person at all times. The event
occurred sometime before 3pm.

According
to judicial agents, Taylor was in
custody from the commencement of the
raid and was under police guard at the
time he shot himself. Paramedics were
rushed to the scene, but he could not be
revived, dying some 40 minutes later.
Taylor had remained calm during the time
up to his death. Municipal police had
who were on the scene to aid officers of
the Organismo Investigativo Judicial (OIJ),
primarily for crowd control as the front
of the main offices were roped off to
restrict access, brought everyone in the
building lunch at about 1:30pm.
Following the suicide, the complete
block was roped off as local shops and
offices were forced to close as
pedestrian traffic on the boulevard was
completely closed off as judicial
officials completed their
investigations.
The body was removed from the scene
about 6:25 pm.

The raid
on the Vault was no surprise. It had
been known for some time that
investigators were looking closely at
the operation following a criminal
complaint brought by one investor.
Several other investors had been
pressuring Taylor for financial
information on the company, one had
engaged a local law firm and had been
negotiation with Taylor up until the day
earlier. One investor, who had an
appointment with Taylor yesterday
afternoon to pull her money, was turned
away at the door by police.
Taylor had been in suffering health and
was rumored to have been hospitalized
for having suffered a heart attack last
week and had just returned to work on
Monday.
Several investors we spoke to yesterday
were shocked at the news. A former
employee, who chose to remain anonymous,
said the act was in Taylor's style. He
worked closely with Taylor over the last
few months and he thought, the weapon
Taylor used to take his own life was the
same that was pointed at him by Taylor
only a few weeks ago, following a
discussion over payment.
The Vault website indicated that the
firm managed approximately $100 Million
Dollars in different businesses and
employed 210. The website has been
temporarily taken off-line.
The
future of the Vault at this time is not
clear.
