Costa Rica's Pacific coast is shrinking due to climate change. Oceanographer Guillermo Quirós warns that climate change is affecting Costa Rica's coast, reducing the country, today and not in the 10 to 15 years previously forecast. Quirós estimates that island near Parrita has already lost 60% of its area in the last 25 years, literally "being eaten up by water".

New Orleans-based Pan-American Life Insurance Group (PALIG), a leading provider of insurance and financial services, announced today that its subsidiary, Pan-American Life Insurance de Costa Rica, S.A. has received final approval from the Superintendencia General de Seguros  SUGESE, Costa Rica's Insurance Regulator) to operate in Costa Rica.
