Despite the tough sanctions of the new Ley de Tránsito, traffic accidents are up this year and so are the number of fatalities, which total 141 since January. As such, the cheif of the Policía de Tránsito, Cesar Quirós, promises more "operativos" (spot checks). This week alone five deaths have been recorded and there is still the weekend to come. In addition to alcohol, bad drivers and the rain, bad roads play an important role in the number of accidents. |
