The Ministerio de Obras Publicas y Transportes (MOPT) reports no major congestion on the alternates to the Pacific coast from the San José with the closure of the San José - caldera between Orotina and Atenas, that went into effect Saturday morning.

 In the world of labour in Uruguay there is one indicator in which women are ahead: unemployment. The unemployment rate among women is twice that of men in this small South American country between Argentina and Brazil, and three times as high in some provinces, according to a study by the Gender Information System of the National Women's Institute.

Closing the San José - Caldera is perhaps a prudent move on the part of transport officials, but what are now to do, go back to the old road, the monte de Aguacate or the Cambronero? No way, I think I will stay home until they re-open ruta 27 completely.
