year in downtown San José, when the

Wants Legislators To Ease Off On Drinking
Driving Provisions
At least one group is not too pleased with
the drinking and driving sanctions in the
new Ley de Tránsito. The Cámara
Costarricense de Restaurantes (Costa Rican
restaurant association) is making their
concerns known to legislators as they
continue discussion on making the provisions
even tougher.

Tránsito That Goes Into Effect March 1
The new Ley de Tránsito goes into effect come
Monday, March 1st. We all know that the new law
brings heavy fines and tough sanctions, but many
do not know that the law also requires all
vehicles to have an emergency kit and seatbelts
in rear seats as well.
Caja Cannot Test Job Applicants For HIV
The Sala Constitucional (Constitutional Court)
has ruled that the Caja Costarricense de Seguro
Social (CCSS) - Social Security - cannot demand
an HIV test as part of its job application.
Costa Rica Not To Have A Second Wave of AH1N1
Ethel Trejos, the director of epidemiological
surveillance at the Ministerio de Salud (Health
Ministry) explained that due to the latest
results Costa Rica will not be hit by a second
wave of the AH1N1 flu virus as had been
expected.
