Declared
With 18 people dead, one
still missing and
thousands in shelters,
Costa Rica has declared
a state of emergency due
to the heavy rains that
has caused flooding and
mudslides in just about
every part of the
country during the last
10 days.

Ministerio de Salud
(Health ministry) has
issued a ban on the "carnavales
de Limón" due to the
number of cases of
Dengue that include
three deaths, four "regidores"
(city councilmen) are
opposed to dissolving
this years "Comisión de
Carnavales" (carnival
commission) and are
insisting that the
festival can be held in
November.
TLC "Si" Win Confirmed
The Tribunal Supremo de
Elecciones (TSE)
yesterday confirmed the
win by the "Si" campaign
in the October 7
referendum vote over the
Tratado de Libre
Comercio (TLC) - free
trade agreement with the
United States.
Man Wanted For
Killing 2 Year Old Daughter in US
Arrested in Costa Rica
The international police organization,
INTERPOL, working with local police
forces yesterday captured another
fugitive, wanted in the United States,
and hiding out in Costa Rica.
