hopes to expand its sugar cane derivatives
industry by opening it up to foreign
investment and incorporating greater added
value into the products it sells on the
depressed international market.
The new strategy of Cuba's socialist
government included the closure of nearly half
of the country's 156 state-owned sugar mills
last year, in order to bring production levels
