For example, every time I go to the Caja I am reminded of the many ways in which the military has contributed to the medical field and especially in emergency care. Here, they don’t even know what triage is. Discipline is not something one is born with. It must be learned and practiced. Lack of discipline leads to a number of undesirable traits such as sloth and aimlessness. The military develops strong leaders, something that seems to be missing here. Then there are the lifesaving services provided by the military in times of disasters. Finally, every time I cross the Cerro de la Muerte, I am reminded that this marvelous undertaking was accomplished by the US Corps of Engineers as a gift to Costa Rica.
