Totally agree with all of your points Toolman. The gist of the article seemed to imply that eliminating/reducing the drug trade will solve these impoverished people’s woes. My point is that for many of these people their lives will still be governed by gangs and gang-influenced corruption irregardless of what crop they grow.

It would still dry up a large part of organized crimes income. Would they still run guns and other illicit materials? sure. But prohibition has never worked for goods or services that have widespread demand. It’s a lesson that most politicians have never learned.

The horse is already out of the barn. Take away the drug trade and the gangs will substitute another illicit activity. They’re not going to give up their money & power and take up legitimate employment by merely legalizing and taxing.

THe drug war has been lost for over 30 yrs. The US alone waste many millions for nothing , thousand are in jails for drugs, What good has it done.There are two things that can be done, Execute any one that has any thing to do with drugs, you will lose a lot of friends and family. or the smart thing Legalize and tax the dam stuff.
