It is a real problem that they are trying to solve and in a way making it easy for cops to intervene in domestic violence cases makes it possible at all but there is not much in the way of proving a claim nor exploring the idea that women aren’t always the victims. It is a really a hard thing to figure out.

I agree, though I suspect that reporting is also up. There has been a pretty big campaign to encourage people (well, women) to report domestic violence, and I would imagine that it’s been effective. We however have no idea whether the real rates of violence have increased, decreased, or remained the same.

Before the domestic violence law was passed, the UN was down here big time, taking lawyers and judges and legislatures out to lunch and also training them on how to interpret laws according to gender. And not only is evidence discarded, the woman can say absolutely anything she wants and there is no recourse whatever for the man despite any concrete evidence he might have to offer. Also, he cannot charge her with lying; the law clearly states that the woman’s version takes precedence over than man’s if there is any doubt at all, and the man cannot press charges of perjury against her, either.

there has been no increase just a change of definition. i am all in favor of jailing women beaters, or beaters of anyone, but the domestic laws of psycho abuse and banning men from homes based on claims with no evidence is the story here.
