I have personally been in the Limon docks and seen military trucks from Venezuela full of military supplies that were bound for Nicaragua. Nicaragua has no port and has to ship through Costa Rica, even when they are at odds and were fighting over the n. river boundary..
Right along side the Venezuelan military equipment bound for Nicaragua was a U.S. Military Ship sitting at dock.

I have to agree with you. The story here has nothing to do with anything “nefarious” on the part of the US Army, they needed fuel on their way to Panama, and had they just stopped at Liberia and fueled up and continued on their way to Panama without making a “scene” it wouldn’t even be a story.

I think the issue here is cultural sensitivity. Costa Ricans are in no way accustomed to seeing anything “militaristic” – for most, even something like an AR-15 rifle is terrifying… it just isn’t part of their culture, nor do they want it to be, and their wishes to not personally see “military-style” aircraft – weaponized or not – in their skies should be respected. These aircraft – even if it was necessary to cross over to the Caribbean of the country – could have flown a more “out of sight” route, not over people’s houses.

It is the same type of cultural sensitivity that one should respect when visiting other countries, where cultural norms may be more conservative and perhaps women shouldn’t walk around in thong bikinis in some places out of simple respect for local cultural norms.

How come they are flying so low? That has nothing to do with refueling and may be showing a little insensitivity or courtesy.
People in CR are not used to foreign low-flying military convoys.
Sight seeing?
There are flight corridors and flight plans or pre-approved routes usually.
Maybe this means that did not happen in this case.

Typical CR always making a stink over nothing , they had permission, bought fuel spent money, moved on, how about such a stink over the 60 plus murders a month, kidnappings, assaults, rapes, home invasions, 200-300 cars x month stolen, screaming high cost of living, maybe its time military take over here, obvious the gov is impotent about solving real issues.
