I assume you are talking about the article on CRHoy.com. Let me clarify: it is not a flat 100,000 increase in marchamo, It is a (proposed) extra tax based on the value of the vehicle. The CR Hoy article said ‘up to’ (the maximum) citing a vehicle worth more than $45,000. The tax is a proposal to pay for a new electric train service in the San Jose metro area. Most common vehicles driven in this country would see an increase in marchamo of about 10,000 colones, should the proposal even become a formal bill before the Legislative Assembly, which it hasn’t yet.

If you read otherwise it was probably on an English-language blog that mis-translated the CRHoy.com story.

With this many people protesting a minute increase in salary, what will happen when the government adds that extra 100mil colones to the marchamo that I was reading about yesterday? The taxis, the buses as well as all the people that have to drive to anywhere is going to feel an extra pinch and for what? Couple all this to the added taxes that are looking at us and it would seem that CR is about to become very difficult for anyone to live here unless you are super rich. Even then, will they resort to slave labor to take care of the work that has to be done? Many people are now working for slave labor wages, just enough to have one meal per day, so where is this extra tax money going to come from?
I have an idea, those higher ups in the government sector that have a lifetime income could be taxed at a much higher rate and leave the working class alone. I am sure that won’t happen either.

CIMA closing here in Escazu part of their hospital? Also CR been on the brink for years. Notice other countries around us Mexico, Colombia and Chile have had a major devaluation of their currency. When I see CR has devaluation of 15% maybe more it will be a wake up call. Is it true many in government here get paid in USD or their pay adjusted in the colon currency, is that just a rumor? I with you do not invest or buy anything.

I swear that Costa Rica is now become Venezuela now. These unions or public sector unions have pissed off so many people in Costa Rica that i could see a war break out. The Unions act like mafia or organized crime and control docks or ports and phones,roads and health care and banking. Have Costa Rican become part of the communist party? Costa Rica is now ranked 128th in the world to do business and the Public sector union love that. Now i hear that CIMA hospital is going to close a big part of there hospital there goes the private healthcare. This morning i spoke with a freind that works at the US embassy and he said Costa Rica is on the brink of disaster both economic and social.

To all tourist and vistors do not travel to Costa Rica its getting very dangerous. DO NOT INVEST IN COSTA RICA YOU WILL LOSE EVERYTHING TRUST ME.
