I know I’ve used it plenty of times not knowing it’s origins, just parroting what I’d heard Ticos say.

Hmmm, my difficulty is that I’ve heard non-Ticos use it. Maybe they’re just fitting into the culture, but something tells me that this has a broader etymlogy.

Hi Jack. Thanks for your research. Since Upe is a of Christian origins,I must state that sixty years ago ,I heard some of our neighbors use that very expression up in Wisconsin.It was an area of large Christian faith.
