Well since my SON is Tico, I can say whatever the f**k I want. Maybe if the “Costa Ricans” actually cared about cleaning up the country I wouldn’t have much to say, but they don’t. Every time I talk to my Tico friends about corruption, etc, they always just laugh and say “ahh that how it always works here. Pura vida!” Most people are just trying to get by in this country. Blame the elite business owners. I’m sure you’ve seen them in the news closing hotels and announcing layoffs. Poor business practices and lousy accountability. Apathy at it’s finest but that’s just how it is.

explain CR’s “literacy” — if you can sign your name in cursive, you’re literate. Actually, there may be something to that since higher SAT scores have been linked to those using cursive over block print. Not to say that those who “flourishingly” scribe their Costa Rica name are candidates for MENSA (although they would dispute this) — ask them how many books they have read this year.

Bad roads. poor infrastructure and smiling undereducated people is what tourists want to see when they visit Costa Rica. They expect it. Nothing is going to change that image as long as enormous profits are being taken.

Good point look forward to reading. Just so you know in Canada they build road for around 1 million for every 1 kilometer. How come Costa Rica is so much expensive to build road. Labour is much cheaper in CR.
