Are you kidding me?! In a normal (I know, we are in Costa Rica!) business contract, requests for cost increases by the contractor
must be made on an ANNUAL basis, or not at all, NOT saved up for 10 years and then wallop the people with a triple increase! Totally unacceptable! I only hope that the regulatory agency will respond with a sold NO!

They have money pouring in already! The last Riteve we had done found the vehicle minus a bolt somewhere. We purchased the bolt, had it installed, and returned to the inspection station within half an hour. The inspector went directly to the bolt’s location and confirmed that it had been installed, then charged us for another complete inspection. The year before that, a headlight was out of alignment. We stuffed some newspaper behind the light to prop it up, passed the “look-see” and were also charged for a second complete inspection. Oh yes, after we rounded the corner out of sight of the Riteve, we removed the newspaper so it wouldn’t catch fire on the way home. What a farce!

Actually, RITEVE is a Spanish consortium who has the contract to run Costa RIca’s vehicle inspections for the next 8 years (for a total of 20). So technically, none of the money feeds government coffers. That’s not to say that it doesn’t feed government officials’ pockets, though. Ms. Laura, are your ears burning?

The goverment loves this little tax raise a little bit on everything then its all over no more private business and we have a dictator named elite that control Costa Rica. So pissed off at Costa Rica goverment they really hate everyone they really hate business,home owners,car owners,poor people,middle class est.

MAYBE double it IF they put some of the $$$ towards repairing the roads that trash the cars in the first place.
Maybe the prices haven’t gone up in 10 years – BUT – the amount of cars registered as DEFINITELY gone up a LOT in those 10 years so that means Riteve has LOTS more $$ coming in because of that!!! (1+1=???? DUHHH!!)
Where does the money raised from Riteve go??

One more cost of living increase in Costa Rica. Why am I not surprised? Costs here have more than doubled in the 6 years since we built our casa.

They can’t fix the roads which break our cars but we have to pay for an inspection to check said broken car. Good ol costa rica

This is insanity!!!!! $60.00 is more than most citizens earn for over two days work. I say scrap it if it can’t be done for less, never mind tripling the current cost.
