Thats bullshit. Have you ever been assaulted down here? Huh? I dont think so and if you have you were probably doing something like getting drugs or renting a hooker. Tourist aint targets only if they go out for a walk in the middle of the night through san jose (everyone is a target at that hour). Costa rica has crime but its really light and its mostly drug dealers shooting other drug dealers. Its really really rare to see a case where a tourist gets assaulted and robbed. And even harder to see a tourist getting kidnapped or killed. Seriously it never happens, there are cero cases

Crime is so rampant? Wait what? I live here and you are wrong. Cr is a quiet place, there is no violent crimes like in other places and police does a decente job… You dont know anything about corrupted goverments.

Okay. The OIJ had these scums, they were ready to send them to jail for a long ass time ( you dont wanna know how rapers are treated in costa rican prisons). The girl didnt press any charges And then she changed the story, hmm weird. And why did she stayed in a shitty bar with 7 drunk Nicaraguan construction workers?? And Police says she wasnt kidnapped. Im costa rican and these type of things never happen down here.

Thanks, pal. Yeah, the AM Costa Rica article was about my book, and while a couple of points were misleading, this goes with the territory (roughly the results I expect from trials). On the balance though the blurb was fair. My publisher is opening with a sticker price of $100, so I’m urging people not to hoard copies lest there not be enough for everyone . . .

I agree that we don’t know what happened and that there is no point in speculating. A trial would have brought out more information and possibly more confusion.

You must have been in a cynical mood yesterday.

For sure, I have my doubts about a trial bringing out the truth, but it’s the best shot we have. Right now it’s “trial by tabloid journalism.” I’d prefer a courtroom trial before I make up my mind.

Right now, while you equivocate by using the word “alleged,” you seem to believe that the woman really was raped and is best off to walk away rather than deal with a kangaroo court. Maybe you are right, but it’s also possible that she fabricated the charge. Stranger things have happened.

I will insist that at this point (and probably forever) we simply don’t know. Maybe a trial wouldn’t tell us anything either, but there’s a better chance of it getting to the truth than a dropped allegation and a lot of online speculation with zero facts.
