Nature has been “screwing around” with genes for billions of years, and yes, some “diversions” have gone terribly wrong, but all in all the world has evolved for the better, otherwise we would not have 7 billion persons walking the surface of planet Earth.

Of course it cuts down on pesticide like the article admits!!! because you are eating the pesticide which is imbedded into the seed and thus the plant. More ingestion of pesticides means more cancer. Farm organically as in nature and THEN you don’t need GMO’s. Organic and biodynamic farming improves the soil so it doesn’t end up depleated. Monsanto is owned by elites and that is ONLY about money using the scare tactic of a huge un-feedable population. Let nature take its course and stop playing God?? might be a great ID.

Responsible, appropriate reporting IMO. This is an important issue, and my sense is that the extremist on both sides are wrong. Cool and scientifically- as well as politically-informed heads need to sort this mess out.

A blanket statement like : “GMO is a very good thing” is over-reaching. When Watson 1st discovered the DNA code opening up the door to GMO, he said stated that there should be an international governing body established to oversee all research, and development of GMO’s.
Unfortunately the U.N. has not assumed this role, and no one else has.
Without controls greed always takes over, and the potential for disaster pops up.
Nature is constantly adding and subtracting DNA from species, so for humans to genetically alter species to increase yield, improve nutitional value,combat pests, etc. providing there is no hidden toxic result can be a good thing.
Blame Monsanto’s greed for giving the whole field a bad name. To genetically alter crops in order for them to be able to tolerate the toxic chemicals they sell, is a perversion, and should not be allowed-thus the need for an international watchdog, and permitting agency.

Exactly! What all the detractors don’t realize is that GMO is a very good thing, and has already led to many improvements in the world’s food supply. With more to come!
