Ortega and the Sandinistas are just recycled Leftist thugs. Before the Sandinistas regained power just a few years back, there were no major political problems between Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Now, since Ortega and his bully boys have regained power, Isla Calero has become a major problem where before, it wasn’t. Now, Ortega is making up this silly claim on Guanacaste. Using Ortega’s logic, because the court never granted Nicaragua independence from Spain, their possession of the land today is illegal. Maybe Spain should pursue this.
Costa Rica is not asking for more territory just to be left alone. They have no military and, if anything, will gain more support globally if Nicaragua continues in this belligerent fashion.
Ken, what is next, Mexico asking for Texas back or Russia doing the same about Alaska? Get real and leave the Ticos alone.

Although I often don’t agree with him, I love to watch Ortega in action. He is a master at the game of politics. By contrast, Costa Rica’s leaders are bumbling amateurs. Unless Costa Rica gets its act together, it’s fixing to be crushed. I doubt the crushing will take place in Guanacaste, since I don’t think Ortega even wants it. He’s rather using the guerrilla war tactics of striking at multiple targets simultaneously to keep Costa Rica destabilized, and so far Costa Rica is falling for it. Until someone in Costa Rica is tough enough to stand up to him in dialogs, this is going to continue to be a match between a master and amateurs.
