The slant is on US – Latin America relations, not so much Snowden’s personal plight. While some of his revelations deal with Latin America, we’ve already covered what we know of that, and given our geography of coverage, we’ve chosen to not cover all of the info that Snowden has leaked; the international press has covered that fairly well.

I suppose there’s something to be said for a comprehensive analysis, but come on: It’s Venezuela, always has been, and always will be (assuming Snowden can get out of Russia). After a couple years it will all blow over. Though something tells me that Snowden will be nabbed before he can enroll in his first Caracas language school.

Would you not be better serving the public as a news outlet reporting on the information Snowden has leaked, rather than Snowden’s personal plight?

It’s easy to see the motivation of any country that opposes the US generally. But beyond the PR points at home and among similarly aligned countries, there is the promise of gaining a valuable barganing chip at zero cost of acquisition. Then in the future, should the winds blow from a slightly different direction (Uber-Real Politik), Snowden might find himself a very unwilling “trade” for the benefit of his hosts.
