Very few cities in the world have trains in an exclusive corridor. Most run right through the middle of town with no seperation. I should know, I work for Union Pacific Railroad on signal systems. My one big gripe about Costa Ricas’ trains is there are no gated crossings or even flashers to alert cars of the trains approach.

In 1,000s of them trains not only run through residential areas they run right down main street through the down town area. Likewise, in numerous countries all over the world.

Accidents happen unfortunately and maybe pedestrians need to be educated more and there should be more signposts, specific crossing areas and less death-trap pavements.

Train traffic in San Jose, as it now exists, will continue to be a source of accidents.
