This is a case of taxation without representation. In a country where the practice of parking each and every piece of property or chattel in a corporate entity to reduce potential liability has become an ironic comedy. Caution has put a bull’s eye on the heads of those that have for the exclusive pleasure of those that would pick your pocket.

Lester, your business may qualify for a small business exemption. You should have your accountant check into that for you. Too late for this year, but maybe you could be exempt for next year. It’s called PYMES.

John Holtz – yeah, only thing is it’s not the employees that have to pay all these taxes that come due — it’s the business entity and they are bled dry between Dec. & Jan. with Corporation Taxes, paying out aguinaldo to employees, if a Luxury Home is in a Corporation (or not) that also comes due in January, Income Taxes, and sales tax remittances if applicable.

Daniela, many taxes and fees due revolve around the famous “aquinaldo”. From December to the end of January people tend to have more savings and/or money on hand.

Here in Costa Rica, there are 13 months to a fiscal year, 8 days a week; the 6th day here is mañana, and then on top of all that, all these tax payments and related expenses come due like blam, blam, boom. Why can’t they see the advantages of somehow dividing up the fiscal year and distributiing them more equitably throughout the year, thinking of the taxpayer citizens rather than just themselves?

The interest or even the payment does not bother me….but if CR get’s a Mexico hair up it’s ass and decides to make this Gringo an example….that would be a problem !!!

CRSS has paid and it was quite a bit more then the property tax on my house. Another business incentive!

Well, we’ve paid ours… have you? 54 colones a day in interest isn’t much incentive to pay. This article probably should have mentioned that you can’t get any legal documents issued by the national registry if this tax is due.
