Es 1000% preferible que el pobre se haga rico, pero como nos han lavado la cabeza con el cuento de que todos los ricos son malos…….y que el pobre esta justificado para robar……el pais esta de cabeza. The two things that keep my country where it is are these two things instilled in our head thanks to the catholic church. 1) All rich are bad 2) its ACCEPTABLE for the poor to steal from the rich. Then again these subjective definitions of ‘poor’ /’rich’ are misused whenever its convenient to justify just about anything. When people realize that making money is not a ‘sin’ then perhaps we can move forward.

I hate promulgation of class warfare by using terms “rich”/”poor”. There will always be some who have more than others and if they earned it legitimately through hard work and resolve, what is the problem? Even if you took all the wealth away from what you like to call the “rich” and give it to the government to distribute, what you call the “poor” will still be “poor”. Is that the “level playing field” everyone talks about as being so utopian? Even in Communist countries where those who had money were reduced to poverty, the only ones who benefited where the elite politicos and the poor got poorer. History is a great teacher but it sounds so good to talk the talk. to quote Thomas Sowell: “I have never understood why it is ‘greed’ to want to keep the money you’ve earned, but not greed to want to take somebody else’s money.”

No property tax for 25 years in Panama, and I’m not even a resident yet, but my attorney told me there is NO problema. (I believe it’s 25 years).

I am not yet a citizen of Costa Rica so I don’t know if I have any business talking negative about Costa Rica however I do have children living here and would like to see many improvements in the country especially in the economy.The tax revenue base must come from somewhere and it seems that there is a lot of emphasis in promoting the tourism industry and import taxes (impuestos) and luxury taxes to generate those revenues. To keep Costa Rica a “green country” which attracts tourism, it does not encourage investors to build potentially polluting industries such as automobile factories and electronics manufacturing in Costa Rica. If cars and electronics and other luxury items were manufactured locally then there would be no exhorbitant import tax and Ticos would have more money to spend on other important things such as food which is very expensive here also. The problem is that there would be less tax revenue from imports and a greater risk of polluting the country which already has enough pollution entering the rivers and beaches. It could balance out the tax revenue base if new investments in local manufacturing generated good paying jobs and intern those salaries and corpotate profits would be the new revenue base thus alleviating the import and luxury taxes. Of course, there would need to be adequate enforcement of the environmental protection laws and an enforcement of tax collection on those corporate profits that have been sheltered by the S.A. entities. I suppose this will generate more business for the lawyers (abagados) to find new creative ways for the corporations to shelter or hide their tax obligations. Perhaps the lawyers should receive a large tax increase since they can always find a way to benefit from other peoples misfortunes or fortunes. I apoligize to any honest lawyers that may have been offended my my remark.
