Who in their right mind cares what the Roman Catholic Church thinks about marriage. Or any other church for that matter? Some things are, indeed, non-negotiable: Physical violence, sexual abuse of anybody, particularly innocent children. In my view there are two important issues the RCC is not addressing which are hampering its future development: The role of women in the church and the concept of a celibate clergy. Upgrading the role of women would include 50% of humanity in one single swoop and remove an anachronism which simply doesn’t hold in our day and age. Celibacy of the priests is an invention of the Middle Ages and his absolutely no biblical connotation, even though I don’t think everything needs to be directly related to the bible.

Perhaps if the church had given its priests the right to inter-marry they wouldn’t have been so many of them preying on young parishoners.
