LIR is about13,000′ if they paved the rest of it. The Oliver North International airport was used to fly in support for Nicaragua at the end of the Regan era.

There is plenty of land around Orotina for a well designed airport (if they can manage that concept). Central Pacific tourism and development will boom. But, too bad Orotina/Coyolar will no longer be quaint little agricultural towns. Highway not likely to expand with expensive two lane bridges anytime soon. I would expect additional toll booths and “easy-pass” lanes to move traffic through quicker.

Adding a new international airport in Orotina area is not a bad idea as I am in the transportation business in Jaco. This would help us in this area to be able to do more business. I have heard about maybe a new international airport being built in the Orotina area for more than 4 years and this is the first time I have heard it come up again in that time peroid. At first I thought it would be a bad idea but after thinking about it over the past 4 years it sounds more like a very good idea. An international airport over on the Atlantic side in Limon is also a good idea.

Didn’t they just upgrade the airport terminal? The big thing is finding the land for doubling the runway. Extending Liberia would also be a good idea at 7500 feet is not enough to land a bigger jet. (you need 10,000 feet to be safe).

How about expanding the existing Limon Airport and giving it Int’l status akin to Daniel Oduber in Liberia. Should take care of the Eastern Seaboard in the U.S.notwithstanding provide Limon with growth opportunities especially with the new Port Facilities and the widening of Highway.

Given how far Coyolar is, there’s going to need at least 4 lanes (2 each way) between Coyolar and San Jose, 100% of the time, as well as getting the train online (which according to one of the plans would go right through the airport).
