No. Health care is a labor intensive industry, like education, so it should have a high proportion of its costs going to salaries. True, medical equipment costs a bundle, and both medicines and overhead cost something, but in general a high proportion of money going to salaries signals that a high proportion is going to patient care. I won’t defend any particular salary or the management, but will say that nurses probably deserve a raise.

I read elsewhere that in excess of 70% of the money CAJA collects goes to salaries/wages. Does anyone know if this is all “administrative” salaries or does it also include doctor’s/nurse’s wages as well? It would be interesting to know the breakdown but it may be a “state secret”. If the whole of the 70+% is for administration, (only 30% goes to direct services to the public), this is a pitiful ratio.
