It seems that people are against GMO because with a broad stroke, GMO is bad. How can that generalization even be made that “when you genetically modify an organism, it’s bad”? We need science, and testing and evidence based conclusions. Not emotional uninformed rhetoric and huge generalizations. There have been numerous peer reviewed studies by independent, non-industry scientists that have found GM crops to be safe. This french corn study in the journal Food and Chemical Toxicology claiming tumors in rats is the first to seriously challenge the current science consensus. So far…outside researchers have called BS on the study to poor research and experimental methods. The French government has asked the country’s health org to evaluate the findings. Could get interesting.

I’M NOT SAYING GMO IS GOOD EITHER. Just that each organism is case by case. For example, If a tomato that makes an extra protein and has extra b vitamins comes on the market and has been shown to have no risks? Why bash it? Let science progress.

Organic or regular…….tons are used here. I some cases organic pesticides can have higher environmental impacts than synthetic pesticides often because they have to be used in large doses. Sometime 3 times as much. It’s ALL BS. Grow your own.

The day humans changed over from Hunting and Gathering to agriculture spelled out doom, not only nutritionally, but in the realm of survival. Sure agriculture allowed us to build cities and support HUGE populations in concentrated areas, but now it requires farming processes that do not require balance with the ecosystem and required heavy fertilization and pest control to pump out the monster yields required by humans. PS….I eat Paleo.

In Canada canola has become a weed because it can’t be destroyed by herbicide anymore. It might not be about the seeds but more about ecosystems. Any kind of monoculture is not good and that is what Monsanto and many others preach.

What is alarming is that many countries INCLUDING China, (Cr’s new best friend) , Chile, Australia, just to name a few all require labeling of GMO foods… sad that Canada and US are not among the enlightened. Obama promised during 2007 campaigning that he’d bring this in; just one more empty promise to add to the list. He has truly been a disappointment on many fronts. But, who’d want Willard? Anyone see any reports on voting figures for alternative candidates? Stien, Johnson, Anderson?

I have not seen any article that shows that GMO crops saved millions of lives in Africa. Only sustainable practices can do that and GMOs are not sustainable. Look at what has happened to India. Monsanto raised the price of seeds 4X and farmers can no longer afford to buy them. Local seeds have either been contaminated by GMOs are are no longer available. There nothing sustainable about that scenerio.
