Take it to Cosevi or your local transito and appeal it. I have 3 on appeal for 2 years. Logistically they dont have the manpower nor court time to handle all these appeals. My guess is that the whole thing is a colossal waste of gov’t resources.

Sheesh what a bunch of babies, get on outta here if you don’t like it. I’m glad they’re going to get the street vendors out of my way. It seemed one sided to be fined $500 for speeding yet street vendors can block traffic on a highway.
You can contest a speeding ticket if there’s only one transito, he needs a witness too.

Why is it the moment an expat makes a comment in protest of the things that are going wrong with this country, there is always someone to say, move! This is my country now after 19 years and I have a stake in what happens. I want things to improve and if people came together we can implement change. Thats how women got the vote, how the people put an end to wars and corruption. Paying a months salary for a parking violation, trying to do business here, corrupt cops and lawyers, crime in the streets is not going away if we are all passive. Of the millions of $$$ that Costa Rica is given annually by other nations and the millions that it confiscates from drug dealers why do they campaign for donations to parks, new Pani facilities, wetlands etc.etc.etc I say speak up!

OK, here is the deal, you can complain all you want that you cannot afford to live as an expat in CR anymore, but it will get you nothing but upset with the new tax, spend, and fine, CR Government.

Alternatively, for those of you who are retired here in CR, you can pack up and move to either Cochabamba or even better Tarija Bolivia. Experience wonderful mountain weather with warm days and cool evening. Want to save money? One person can live like a king for $15K per year with a nice apartment, a maid/cook and more in either of these cities. There are wonderful restaurants and interesting places to travel to in Bolivia as well. Excellent medical/dental care is available for about ½ the price of CR.

Now, on the downside, for those who require an ocean beach you better move to Nicaragua. Air fare is about double the price to and from the US, when compared to CR. You will also find that Bolivia in general is years behind CR in many ways but that also includes taxes and fines.

Well, just thought I would post a potential solution to all the complaining rather than join in on the expat whining.

got $220 ticket for having ‘only’ a copy of passport, driving to surf. Despite what they tell you about keeping passport at home (ok still using US driver’s license but lawyer says the ticket’s b.s.)
