Besides the physical devastation, quakes rock the very thing we expect to be stable, and thus in turn rock the very core of us. And ongoing quakes even more so. We've had about 11,000 quakes since 4 sept 2010 here, in an area that was not even supposed to get them ( see www.christchurchquakemap.co.nz ). There may be some helpful tidbits in the Christchurch online paper for you from time to time...http://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press ... Where it comes to re-construction, as a general rule of thumb: wood gives, brick does not. We had to wack down all our brick chimneys and our brick wall and replace them with wood. Maybe our towns need to collaborate on ideas... I happened to be sitting under one of the units of the Treehouse Inn in Samara on 5 sept as the 7.6 struck...in other words I understand your situation. Looking back on the last 2 years, with ongoing quakes the worst is not even the damage, however devastating and heart breaking, it is the daily fear that results from it all. When we are in a life threatening situation like a quake, our brain creates links to everything associated with it...e.g. it might have linked the place where you were when it happened as deadly dangerous...so if you need to go there again it may create a horrible feeling of panic. It may also link anything that vibrates the ground, e.g. from a heavy truck driving by, as deadly dangerous in that same fashion. There is something that can UN-link that unconscious response; it is an NLP technique. I happened to study that particular technique around the same time the quakes started here and I've helped people here with it very successfully, so they can have their inner calm back. My very best wishes for your safety and the restoration. @[741229458:2048:Marianne]

Hi Eric, you don’t know me – I happened to stumble across your message when looking up Samara – greetings & well wishes for your recovery from Christchurch New Zealand.
